พระนางพญาถือเป็นหนึ่งในชุดพระยอดนิยมเบญจภาคี ซึ่งมีทั้งหมด 6 พิมพ์ใหญ่ได้แก่ พิมพ์เข่าโค้ง พิมพ์เข่าตรง พิมพ์อกนูนใหญ่ พิมพ์สังฆาฏิ พิมพ์เทวดา และพิมพ์อกนูนเล็ก ในแต่ละพิมพ์ก็ยังจะมีพิมพ์ย่อยอีกหลายพิมพ์
Phra Nang Phaya is one of the most famous amulets in the Benjaphakhi set (Benja means 5 and Phakhi means associate group), comprising 6 main types such as curved knee print, straight knee print, large chest print, Sankati print, Angel and small chest print. Each print type contains several sub print types.
พระนางพญา วัดนางพญา จ.พิษณุโลก หนึ่งใน ‘พระชุดเบญจภาคี’ สุดยอดพระเครื่องของไทยนั้น พุทธลักษณะโดยรวมจะคล้ายกัน คือ เป็นพระรูปทรงสามเหลี่ยม พุทธศิลปะสุโขทัย ปางมารวิชัย พระหัตถ์ขวาพาดที่พระชานุ พระหัตถ์ซ้ายวางตรงพระเพลา
Phra Nang Phaya from Wat Nang Phaya, Phitsanulok Province is one of the amulets in Benjaphakhi set (The most famous and expensive amulet set). There are many similarities with the other types of amulets in Thailand. The shape is a triangle print amulets made during Sukhothai Period. The attitude of subduing Mara style. His left upward palm is at the lapHis right downward palm is at the right knee. His left upward palm is at the lap.
In B.E. 2444 (1901 A.D.) King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) went to visit Phitsanulok. Wat Nang Phaya welcomed him by providing a pavillion and a welcoming arch in front of the temple. While workers were digging the site for the construction, they found the large number of Phra Nang Phaya amulets beneath the ground. Upon the arrival of King Chulalongkorn, the temple gave him all the amulets. It is said that all civilians and civil officers who followed the king at that time received the amulets. The remaining amulets were transported to bangkok. After that, some people found a small number of Phra Nang Phaya along with other types of amulets in Bangkok and some temples in Thonburi such as Wang Na, Wat In, Wat Ratchaburana (Wat Liab) Wat Sangkrajai and etc. It was assumed that those Phra Nang Phaya were actually from the discovery in B.E. 2444 (1901 A.D.) in Phitsanulok and were later deposited in other temples because the type and materials were identical.
เมื่อปี พ.ศ.2444 ในหลวงรัชกาลที่ 5 เสด็จประพาสเมืองพิษณุโลก ทางวัดนางพญาได้จัดสร้างศาลาและซุ้มรับเสด็จฯ บริเวณด้านหน้าของวัด ขณะที่คนงานกำลังขุดหลุมฝังเสาได้พบพระนางพญาฝังอยู่ในดินจำนวนมาก เมื่อในหลวงรัชกาลที่ 5 เสด็จมาที่วัดนางพญา ทางวัดจึงได้นำพระนางพญาที่ขุดได้ นำขึ้นทูลเกล้า ถวาย เล่ากันว่าในหลวงได้พระราชทานแจกจ่ายพระนางพญาแก่ข้าราชบริพาร และผู้ติดตามเสด็จในครั้งนั้นทุกคน พระส่วนที่เหลือแจก สันนิษฐานว่ามีการนำเอาลงมาที่กรุงเทพฯ ต่อมาภายหลัง มีผู้พบนางพญาจำนวนไม่มากนักแตกกรุออกมาพร้อมกับพระอย่างอื่นที่กรุงเทพฯ และธนบุรี บางวัด เช่น ที่วังหน้า กรุวัดอินทร์ กรุวัดราชบรูณะ(วัดเลียบ) กรุวัดสังกระจาย สันนิษฐานกันว่าเป็นพระฝากกรุ คงจะนำมาจากพิษณุโลก เมื่อ ปี พ.ศ.2444 มาบรรจุไว้ในภายหลัง เพราะ ทั้งพิมพ์ทั้งเนื้อพระเหมือนกันทุกอย่าง
